The Emergency Tire Puncture Repair Kit (IMS®: Instant Mobility System) is designed to temporarily restore mobility in the event of a minor tire puncture, such as when a nail or similar object is encountered during driving, allowing the vehicle to continue operating for a limited time.
In recent years, vehicle designs have increasingly shifted away from carrying spare tires in order to enhance safety performance, improve environmental efficiency, and optimize space utilization.
IMS® was developed to support this evolution in vehicle design while providing drivers with peace of mind in unexpected situations.
By eliminating the need for a spare tire, IMS® offers several key advantages:
・Improved fuel efficiency through vehicle weight reduction
・More effective use of luggage and cargo space
・Contribution to reduced CO2 emissions
DUNLOP’s IMS® leverages the advanced technologies and rigorous quality control expertise cultivated through decades of tire development. For more than 30 years since its introduction, IMS® has been widely adopted by automotive manufacturers around the world as a reliable emergency tire repair solution.
IMS® is a kit that combines a sealant and a compressor.
In the event of a tire puncture, the sealant is injected into the tire and the compressor inflates it to the recommended air pressure. As the tire then rotates, the sealant spreads across the inner surface of the tire, sealing the puncture from the inside where the foreign object has penetrated.
This process enables the vehicle to continue driving for a limited distance at a specified reduced speed.
DUNLOP designs IMS® to support effective repair performance across a wide range of tire sizes and environmental temperature conditions.
IMS® is intended solely as an emergency repair solution to temporarily restore vehicle mobility.
After use, please have the tire inspected, properly repaired, or replaced as soon as possible at an authorized dealer or service facility.
The sealant used in IMS® is a chemically engineered product and therefore has a specified expiration date.
If the sealant is used after its expiration date, it may not perform as intended, for example:
・It may not spread sufficiently inside the tire
・It may not properly seal the puncture area
As a result, the sealant may fail to deliver its designed performance. To ensure reliable emergency repair in the event of a puncture, the sealant must be used within its expiration period.
The expiration date is printed on the sealant bottle. We recommend checking it periodically.
In the following cases, emergency repair may not be possible:
・Damage to the tire sidewall
・Large cuts, tears, or deformation of the tire
・Use of sealant beyond its expiration date
If any of the above conditions apply, do not continue driving. Please contact roadside assistance or a similar service.
Additionally, do not use products obtained through auctions or second-hand sales.
If you plan to use IMS® on a different vehicle model or with customized tires, please consult an authorized DUNLOP dealer to confirm that the sealant bottle capacity is appropriate.
