Expanding Vehicle Lineup Adopting DUNLOP’s Proprietary Software Technology SENSING CORE: Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System Adopted by Isuzu Motors’ Medium-Duty Truck FORWARD
Oct. 22. 2026
DUNLOP’s (Company name: Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd.; President and CEO: Yasuaki Kuniyasu) proprietary SENSING CORE technology, which detects the conditions of tires, vehicles, and road surfaces, was adopted for use in medium-duty truck models. They went on sale on October 22.
The technology is featured in Isuzu Motors’s FORWARD medium-duty truck models with gross vehicle weight (GVW) of over 14.5 metric tons. They come standard with the Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System, one of the functions of SENSING CORE.
Overview of SENSING CORE technology and value it provides
SENSING CORE is a software technology built upon the expertise gained from the Deflation Warning System (DWS), a tire pressure warning system. It analyzes wheel speed data generated by tire rotation, together with controller area network (CAN) data transmitted through the vehicle’s control system (i.e., vehicle control information), to detect various tire and road conditions, including tire pressure, tire wear, tire load, and signs of potential wheel detachment. The Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System installed in Isuzu’s FORWARD medium-duty truck models is designed to detect the loosening of wheel nuts while the vehicle is in motion. If an abnormality is detected, the system alerts the driver through a warning message and buzzer. This capability allows wheel nut loosening to be detected even while driving, complementing conventional inspections and driver experience, and is expected to play a significant role in preventing wheel separation accidents.

Isuzu Motors’ FORWARD is a medium-duty truck featuring a broad lineup designed to meet the diverse needs of the logistics industry. Combining economical and eco-friendly operations through superior fuel efficiency performance with comprehensive advanced safety features, it supports safe and reliable logistics operations. The latest expansion of this lineup will meet an even wider range of transportation needs and contribute to the growth of our customers’ businesses and logistics operations.
Adoption of Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System: Background
Medium-duty trucks are widely used in various sectors such as local delivery, long-haul transport, and building/construction operations, and serve as a vital means of transportation that supports people’s everyday lives and business activities. Operated across different road environments including urban areas and major highways, wheel detachment accidents involving these trucks could potentially cause serious harm to third parties, such as pedestrians and cyclists. Thus, there is a growing societal demand for improved safety.
The prevention of wheel detachment accidents requires fundamental inspection and maintenance measures such as proper daily inspections and retightening. Conversely, it is difficult for drivers to detect the loosening of wheel nuts while driving, and hence, technologies that can detect signs of abnormalities early on are needed to further improve safety.
Against this context, the provision of Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System, a feature of our SENSING CORE technology, to medium-duty trucks enables the early detection of signs of vehicle malfunctions and contributes to further improving safety on medium-duty trucks and the prevention of wheel detachment accidents.
