FALKEN Takes Overall Victory in 5th Round of Nürburgring Endurance Series

The Sumitomo Rubber Group is pleased to announce that our European tire sales subsidiary, FALKEN Tyre Europe GmbH, took an overall win with the Porsche 911 GT3R, Car No. 3, at the fifth round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (Official name: Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie), a 4-hour race that took place on October 19 in Nürburg, Germany.

Team FALKEN Motorsports entered a pair of Porsche 911 GT3R in the race, Car No. 3 and Car No. 4. In the qualifying sessions, the tires with new specifications, designed to travel on wet road surfaces, delivered the intended performance in the rain, making the team hog the front row of the grid, with Car No. 3 taking the pole position and Car No. 4 the runner-up position. In the final race too, the two FALKEN-colored Porsches were off to an outstanding start and maintained a one-two lead. In the 4-hour race, despite difficult weather conditions with the intermittent rain, FALKEN’s tires for wet road surfaces and those for dry road surfaces showed stable performance under various road conditions, helping Car No. 3 earn a convincing win with a lead of over five minutes ahead of the runner-up.

This marks Team FALKEN’s fifth win of the season, following its two wins in the Nürburgring Endurance Series*1,2 and two victories in the Nürburgring QF Race (Official name: ADAC 24H Nürburgring Qualifiers),*3 claiming a record number of wins in a year and highlighting the superior grip and wear resistance of FALKEN tires.

■ Outline of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS)
It is an endurance race series made up of a total of eight races held in Nürburg, Germany. Unlike the 24-hour endurance race that is held only once a year, the NLS races range in length from 4 to 12 hours. Vehicle manufactures and tire manufactures, including us, use the NLS as a test field to aim for the win in the 24-hour race, and many leading teams compete in the NLS. A circuit of the course used for the races is about 25 kilometers, which is almost the same as that used for the 24-hour race. It is an extremely tough circuit, with around 170 corners, a height difference of approximately 300 meters, narrow course widths, and wavy and slippery road surfaces.
