Vehicle Equipped with DUNLOP Tires Captures Overall Victory at “Asia Cross Country Rally 2024”
Aug. 21. 2024
The Sumitomo Rubber Group is pleased to announce that the TOYOTA GAZOO RACING THAILAND, which the Group supported by supplying DUNLOP GRANDTREK tires, captured the overall victory at the "Asia Cross Country Rally 2024" held in Thailand from August 11 through 17, 2024.
The race is Asia’s largest cross-country rally certified by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). This year's race started and finished in Thailand, covering a total distance of approximately 2,100 km combined with Asia's unique road conditions, nature, and climate.
Teaming up with the TOYOTA GAZOO RACING THAILAND, we supplied DUNLOP GRANDTREK tires for three vehicles to support the team. The tires developed for this race delivered excellent durability and traveling performance, enabling the Mana PORNSIRICHERD - Kittisak KLINCHAN pair to race the whole rally without a single flat tire or any time lost due to replacement of tires, thereby contributing to TOYOTA GAZOO RACING THAILAND’s first ever much anticipated victory in the rally.
The Mana - Kittisak duo bearing number 105 led the rally by scoring the best time in the special stage (SS) on Day 1. However, a course error in the second day's SS cost them 29 minutes behind the lead, bringing them down to 17th place overall. From there, the chase took off, and on Day 4, the duo again set the best time, moving up to second place overall. On Day 5, they finally turned the tables and took back the overall lead, defending their lead into the final day to win the overall title. This was the seventh Asia Cross Country Rally for the TOYOTA GAZOO RACING THAILAND, and the first time it captured the crown.
