Team FALKEN Motorsports Racecar Finishes 10th Overall at the Nürburgring 24h-Race
May. 24. 2023
The Sumitomo Rubber Group is pleased to announce that Team FALKEN Motorsports competed in the recent Nürburgring 24h-Race (Official Name: ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring), which was held in Nürburg, Germany this past May 18 through 21. Of the two Porsche 911 GT3R (992) racecars fielded by Team FALKEN Motorsports, Car No. 44 finished the race in 10th Place overall, marking the tenth consecutive year in which Team FALKEN Motorsports has finished in the Top 10 at this world-class touring race.
Scene from This Year’s Nürburgring 24h-Race |
After performing quite well in the qualifying heats held on May 18 and 19, the brand-new twin Porsche 911 GT3R (992) racecars decked out in Team FALKEN Motorsports colors started out the main event on May 20 in 6th place (Car No. 44) and 14th place (Car No. 33), respectively.
This year, the sudden downpours that have become a fixture of the Nürburgring 24h-Race in recent years were notably absent, and so the race took place under fine weather from start to finish. Nevertheless, the merciless racecourse and fierce competition once again combined to make this year’s race an intense battle for survival, which ultimately forced 16 of the 32 vehicles competing in the SP9 Class to retire before reaching the finish line. Unfortunately, this included one of the two racecars fielded by Team FALKEN Motorsports: Car No. 33, which had to retire after straying off course and coming into contact with a barrier during a failed attempt to overtake a vehicle competing in another class in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, Car No. 44 kept going strong throughout the race and, in spite of falling a few places in the rankings, managed to complete 160 laps (covering a distance of approximately 4,060km) in 24 hours to finish the race in 10th Place overall.
At the same time, the SUBARU WRX NBR CHALLENGE 2023 racecar fielded by SUBARU TECNICA INTERNATIONAL in the SP4T Class spent much of the race at the top of its class before running into mechanical trouble. Undaunted, the team staff spent over 4.5 hours working tirelessly to get the vehicle back into the race, where it would go on to finish in 80th Place overall (2nd in class).
