2022 DUNLOP & FALKEN Motorsports Activities Report
Dec. 13. 2022
Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. is pleased to report the results of our 2022 Motorsports Activities, through which we supported many racing teams and individual racers while supplying our high-performance DUNLOP and FALKEN tires for exciting racing events held all over the world. This year, we developed numerous cutting-edge tires for state-of-the-art vehicles competing at the very pinnacle of racing, all while carefully analyzing the data from each race in order to adeptly supply tires optimized for road and weather conditions at just the right timing to give competitors an edge.
From amateurs participating in entry-level races to professionals competing in world-class tournaments, we are immensely proud to have supported so many outstanding competitors across such a wide range of racing categories and formats this year. Their daring feats on the racetrack brought fun and excitement to countless fans throughout the world. We are grateful not only to the competitors who gave it their all while working side by side with DUNLOP and FALKEN every step of the way, but also to the many fans throughout the world who cheered them on along the way.
“SUPER GT” | “Nürburgring 24h-Race” | “AMA Supercross” |
The “SUPER GT” is widely considered to be the pinnacle of Japanese racing. In this year’s tournament, “TEAM Red Bull MUGEN” placed 13th overall in the GT500 Class, while “Modulo Nakajima Racing” placed 15th overall. Meanwhile, in the GT300 Class, teams equipped with DUNLOP tires dominated the podium in the second race of the series and took the top two places in the fourth race. In the end, “GAINER (Car No. 10)” placed 2nd overall in the GT300 Class, followed by “R&D SPORT” in 3rd Place and “GAINER (Car No. 11)” in 5th Place.
Other highlights from DUNLOP Motorsports Activities in 2022 included the recently overhauled “TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Cup,” where a team equipped with DUNLOP tires became the very first team to win the title of Series Champion under the new tournament format. Teams equipped with DUNLOP tires also won the title of Series Champion in five out of six classes at the “All Japan Rally Championship,” where racers competed for the best total time on racecourses composed of closed-off public roads. On top of that, drivers equipped with DUNLOP tires also won the title of Series Champion in nine out of ten classes at the “All Japan Dirt Trial Championship,” where racers competed for the best time while drifting on unpaved racecourses.
This was also a big year for Team FALKEN Motorsports, who finished in 9th Place overall at the “Nürburgring 24h Race”, which is widely considered to be the world’s toughest endurance race. This means that Team FALKEN Motorsports has now finished in the Top 10 at the Nürburgring 24h Race for nine straight years, keeping up a streak that started in 2014.
At the same time, thanks to our proven track record and reputation for providing high-performance tires, the Sumitomo Rubber Group had the great honor of supplying one-make tires for several two-wheel and four-wheel racing tournaments, including tires for such entry-level formula racing tournaments as the “FIA-F4 Championship” and the “Formula Regional Japanese Championship,” as well as tires for the Moto2 and Moto3 Classes at the “FIM World Championship Gran Prix,” which is widely considered to be the pinnacle of international motorcycle racing. We are proud to have had this opportunity to directly support competitors and competitions from the point where the vehicle meets the road.
Through our ongoing motorsports activities, the Sumitomo Rubber Group will continue working to bring the thrill of racing to more and more people around the world while constantly honing our tire development capabilities in order to provide even greater value to our customers.
<Message from Satoru Yamamoto, CEO of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd.>
I am immensely grateful to all of the racing teams and individual racers who gave it your all while working side by side with the Sumitomo Rubber Group throughout this year’s racing season. This year, I had the great pleasure of attending many of your races in person, and I must say that seeing the crowds of fans go wild as they cheered you on through each thrilling moment gave me a renewed sense of just how much fun motorsports can be. So that we can all enjoy even more of your exciting racing feats next season, the Sumitomo Rubber Group will be hard at work to develop even higher performance tires to support you along the road to victory.
