Riders Outfitted with DUNLOP Tires Crowned 1st Series Champions at 2022 FIM World Supercross Championship
Nov. 01. 2022
Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that riders outfitted with our high-performance DUNLOP Brand Tires were crowned the first-ever Series Champions in the “WSX (450cc) Class” and the “SX2 (250cc) Class” at the 2022 FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX). Not only that, but riders equipped with DUNLOP Tires also dominated the winners’ podium for the WSX Class.
Following in the footsteps of the world-renowned AMA Supercross Championship* (hosted by the American Motorcycle Association or “AMA”), the FIM World Supercross Championship is a new race series hosted by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (International Motorcycling Federation or “FIM”). In its very first year, the FIM Supercross Championship attracted many world-class riders representing leading offroad racing teams from the United States, Australia, France, Italy and elsewhere. Like the AMA Supercross Championship, these races take place on challenging courses full of jumps, hoops and sharp corners coming one after another. As such, riders need tires that provide all-around high performance when it comes to traction, braking, cornering and more.
*Riders outfitted with DUNLOP Tires have also been crowned Series Champions at the AMA Supercross Championship for the past 13 consecutive years.
This year’s inaugural “pilot” season consisted of only two races (down from the three that had been initially planned), leaving competitors with no room for error as they fought to make each race count. Competing in the WSX Class, Ken Roczen had finished the first race of the season in second place. This put him in the pole position for the second race, where he clocked the fastest lap along his way to a first-place finish, thus earning himself the title of Series Champion at the first ever FIM Supercross World Championship. Meanwhile, in the SX2 Class, Shane McElrath pulled ahead of his rival after a dead heat in the second race to clinch the title of Series Champion as well. Their spectacular wins at this top-level tournament serves as proof positive of the outstanding performance of DUNLOP Tires for all the world to see.
We at Sumitomo Rubber will continue to support riders from the ground up across all sorts of riding situations while working tirelessly to enhance our tire development capabilities as well as the overall value of the DUNLOP Brand in the process.
