Sumitomo Rubber Industries Signs Official Supplier Agreement with Mouratoglou Academy — A global system has been established to develop and train top young players
Jan. 22. 2019
Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce the signing of an official supplier agreement with the Mouratoglou Academy (located in Sophia Antipolis, France). The academy is one of the largest tennis academies in Europe* and famous as a training base for some of the biggest names in world tennis. Under this agreement, we can provide tennis gear, including rackets and balls, to coaches and players at the academy, and sell our tennis products at the academy's tennis shop. This agreement also allows us to station our staff at the academy to support the development and training of promising young players who belong to the academy.
Along with this agreement, we signed a Dunlop brand ambassador agreement with Mr. Patrick Mouratoglou, the founder of the academy and an internationally distinguished professional tennis coach.
* In terms of the number of young players and tennis courts
The Mouratoglou Academy is managed by Mr. Patrick Mouratoglou, and is widely recognized as a training base for the world's top players, including Serena Williams whose official coach is Mr. Patrick Mouratoglou himself. On its premises it has 34 tennis courts (clay and hard), training facilities, swimming pools, and educational facilities among other things, with 180 students at all times, as well as more than 4,000 camp attendees per year undertaking training in the vast grounds covering 120,000m².
<Objectives of the Agreement>
Sumitomo Rubber Industries signed an official sponsorship contract with the IMG Tennis Academy (USA) in 2018, and since then we have been offering players support in a variety of ways including the provision of tennis gear. This new supplier agreement with the Mouratoglou Academy in Europe has realized our collaboration with two of the world's leading tennis academies, enabling us to establish a system to support the development and training of top young players. We will continue to further develop our own global training system for young talented players, with the aim of producing Grand Slam champions from these academies in the future.
<Mr. Patrick Mouratoglou's Comments>
"I am pleased to be able to sign a contract with a prestigious and time-honored brand like DUNLOP. I myself was a big fan of Dunlop's Max 200G racket. DUNLOP has long been providing excellent services worldwide, and now even more so since Sumitomo Rubber Industries in Japan became its new owner. I am sure that receiving sponsorship from the brand, which is sponsoring big events including the Australian Open and the Nitto ATP Finals, will without doubt benefit me and my academy. I intend to walk together with the newborn Dunlop."
